Tributes paid to business partner who devoted more than 60 years to F.H. Brundle

Tributes have been paid to a partner of F.H. Brundle who passed away just before Christmas, aged 78 years old.

Richard Brundle MBE was the fourth generation of the Brundle family to run the wholesale supplier – devoting more than 60 years to the company.

His son, Michael, has led the tributes to Mr Brundle who joined the family business in 1956 when his grandfather, great uncle and father, Frederick, ran the company.

Michael said:

“My father thoroughly enjoyed developing F.H. Brundle over the past 60 years. He particularly loved the relationships he formed with our customers, employees and suppliers.

“Everyone knew him for being well dressed, as well as his honest, straightforward approach to business and friendly nature – he always had time for a chat.

“He always strived to operate a well-run business that offers our customers a friendly and reliable service as well as high quality products.

“As the fifth generation of Brundle, I hope to ensure that this great legacy continues in his absence.”

Richard Brundle joined the family-run company when he was 16 years old when F.H. Brundle had 12 employees on a single site in Dalston, London.

Thanks to Mr Brundle’s vision and leadership, in partnership with his son, it now employs more than 270 people at 10 different sites across the UK – and supplies more than 8,500 product lines.

In 1988, he opened his first warehouse outside of London – in Nottingham – and then expanded the network of branches as well as diversifying into new product ranges such as wrought iron components, hand railing systems, steel fencing and steel sections.

Michael, who has worked alongside his father at F.H. Brundle since 1998, added:

“My father managed to continue to grow our family business through some very challenging times and events.

“He helped the business diversify quickly – from selling wire nails to lengths of wire in coils or straight lengths, supplied to wire workers making window guards, lampshade frames, baskets and retail point of sale display stands.

“From the sale of wire, my father saw the opportunity to sell a new product called welded wire mesh to the market, and from the success of this range diversified into other specialist forms of sheet steel such as expanded metal and perforated metal.”

A private family funeral service has already taken place, with a memorial service to be held in London in early May.

All who knew Richard and would like to pay their respects are welcome to attend. If you would like information on the ceremony nearer the time, then please email marketing(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)brundle.com.
