Endo reaping the benefits of winning Ecobuild’s Big Innovation Pitch

Inventiveness is part of our psyche. The only problem is turning that bright idea or great invention into a lucrative business can be an uphill struggle.

The challenge for all of us budding James Dysons is getting our innovation in front of people who can make a difference. But what if you had the opportunity to pitch that innovation in front of people who could actually make a difference and literally transform your company overnight?

Our company Endo Enterprises took part in and won Ecobuild’s Big Innovation Pitch 2015, a collaboration between Ecobuild and Marks and Spencer to unearth next generation sustainable products for the built environment. Our product EndoTherm was one of five out of forty initial entries which made it to the live final. It can be put in wet heating systems to improve the thermal capabilities of water – meaning you can heat up your water quicker, which in the long term can reduce gas consumption by 15 per cent. This is not only a huge reduction in energy costs but (because the product is 100 per cent organic) a huge reduction in the carbon footprint.

As a result of our win, Marks and Spencer is trialing this energy saving heating additive across a number of UK stores. It’s a win win situation for our business and hopefully for Marks and Spencer. This sustainable innovation has potential to shave thousands of tonnes of CO2 off their carbon footprint to help achieve their Plan A sustainable objectives.

For a small company like ours, taking part provided an invaluable learning curve. Feedback from the panel of four expert judges showed us how large organisations and other potential clients view our product and offered a unique opportunity to develop and improve our pitch accordingly.

To be shortlisted and then to win has certainly helped raise our profile with larger national chains and improve our sales. Also, we have enjoyed the benefits of a new association with Ecobuild and Marks and Spencer which has not only enhanced our credibility but provided a number of PR and marketing opportunities throughout the year.

With the retailer taking their first delivery and the product being trialed across a number of stores, Ecobuild’s Big Innovation Pitch proved a fantastic platform for our sustainable innovation and a great stage to promote Endo Enterprises as a business.

Ecobuild’s Big Innovation Pitch 2016, once again in partnership with Marks and Spencer, will soon be with us. The shortlist has just been announced and the lucky companies are no doubt busy preparing their pitch. Our success shows it’s a great opportunity for other innovators across the sustainable design, construction and energy sectors to share their ideas and solutions with some of the industry’s biggest names.
