Panel Systems helps create striking façade for refurbished residential block

Ladybeck House in Leeds has been given an aesthetically pleasing new look thanks to fibre cement cladding panels, which were cut to size and supplied by Panel Systems, based in Sheffield.

The building has been refurbished by Riverside Housing into 19 one bedroom supported living apartments for people at risk of homelessness.

Arcus Consulting acted as Architect and Project Manager for the refurbishment and specified dark grey EQUITONE from Marley Eternit as part of an overclad solution to replace the existing white cladding on the building. This darker shade was specified to help retain its aesthetics and complement the roof tile colour of the building.

Panel Systems supplied 400m2 of 8mm thick low maintenance, durable EQUITONE cladding using its bespoke cutting and fabrication service to provide intricate raked cutting to fit around the sloping roof and soffits detail.

This innovative facade material features an additional surface treatment which enhances its hard, smooth matt surface. This surface is easily cleanable and acts as an anti-graffiti coating providing protection against damage from aerosols and other paints, which should ensure the building retains its aesthetics for the long term. The panels provide a striking contrast to the red brick of the building, creating a contemporary look to its exterior and enhancing its aesthetics.

The cladding was pre-ordered and supplied in phased deliveries to site by Panel Systems to suit the main contractor’s requirements.

Danny Phelan, Sales Manager at Panel Systems, said:

“The cladding has made a significant difference to the façade of the building. The dark grey colour was the perfect choice to match the brickwork and to complement the local area in Eastgate, Leeds.”

Panel Systems distributes a full range of cladding panels that are used to create aesthetically striking buildings. The company has the ability to cut, router and shape decorative cladding panels including Rockwool Rockpanel, Alucobond, MEG, Trespa. Formica Vivex, and the Marley Eternit range.
