Redrow today handed over its 100,000th home since it was founded in 1974 by Chairman, Steve Morgan CBE.
Providing homes for around 300,000 people, the equivalent to cities such as Nottingham and Newcastle, Redrow has experienced all types of political and economic conditions over the last 44 years. This has included twelve UK general elections; eleven UK referendums and four recessions.
- During this time, Redrow has delivered:100,000 new homes.
- £2.7 billion into community infrastructure including schools, affordable housing, green spaces and a variety of community amenities.
- Over 2,300 hectares of publicly-accessible open space, the equivalent of 40 Hyde Parks.
- More than 36,000 direct jobs, while a further 200,000 people have been employed indirectly through its supply chain.
- Over 2,000 trainees, approximately half of them apprentices.
Steve Morgan CBE, Founder and Chairman at Redrow, said: “Throughout the political and economic ups and downs of the last 44 years, I am very proud that Redrow, from a £5,000 loan in 1974, has built 100,000 homes; housing the equivalent population of a major city like Nottingham or Newcastle.
“Redrow has taken the lead in designing great places to live as one of the early pioneers of Garden Villages, whilst creating quality homes inspired by the arts & crafts movement.
“Looking forward to our next 100,000 homes, a key part of Redrow’s vision remains inspiring the next generation to build. One of the most rewarding aspects of our industry is being able to train a young person – from any background – and see them flourish with a skill for life.
“We take as much pride in the jobs we have created and the young people we have trained, many of whom have gone on to become Senior Directors in the business, as in the number of homes we have provided.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the loyalty, commitment and expertise of all of our people and I thank them all.”
Today, Redrow has a presence in 15 regions across England and Wales and has around 130 active sites.
Redrow is at the forefront of the Garden Village movement. It is currently building five new Garden Villages, which will be stand-alone communities with a high emphasis on quality lifestyle. Several more are in the pipeline. The five current schemes are Plas Dwr in Cardiff (7000 homes), Woodford Garden Village near Stockport (900 homes), Amington in Tamworth (1,000 homes) and Colindale Gardens in London, an urban new settlement of 3,000 homes. In addition, Redrow is playing a leading role in providing 900 new homes in Ebbsfleet Garden City, the Government’s flagship new settlement.
Nurturing the next generation of construction industry talent has also been central to Redrow’s business since inception. As a member of the 5 per cent Club, the company has committed to ensuring at least 5 per cent of its workforce is made up of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students. Redrow is so committed to training, however, that 15 per cent of its workforce are trainees.
Redrow’s commitment to skills development culminated last year with it launching the UK’s first dedicated housebuilding degree in partnership with leading university, Liverpool John Moores and further education college, Coleg Cambria.

Following in the footsteps of 99,999 families and residents before them are Chester restaurateur, Tom Culshaw, and his wife Claire, who is an assistant head teacher. The couple, both 33, are first-time buyers at Redrow’s Regent’s Grange development near Chester, where they have chosen an Oxford house type from Redrow’s Heritage collection.
“It’s a joy to watch Tom and Claire move into their first – and Redrow’s 100,000th – home. We wish them every happiness as they firmly establish themselves into this new community at Regent’s Grange, near Chester,” Steve added.
