Hull City Council has secured £9.2m in government funding to deliver 83 new council homes across six sites in the city.
The funding has been awarded through the Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP), with the latest allocation of £6.6m supporting the construction of 51 homes across four sites. This follows an earlier award of £2.6m for a further 32 properties.
The developments will be located at Snowden Way, Lindsey Place, Campbell Court, Oriel Grove, Ellerburn Avenue and Kingsfold at Kingswood.
The council said the funding would support its housing growth plan, which aims to deliver 840 new council homes.
Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for economic renewal and housing, said: “This first allocation for Hull from the SAHP will allow the council to build dozens of new homes in different areas of the city for those on the council’s housing waiting list.
“We’re responding to the housing crisis in this country by building much-needed council houses.”
The council added that further sites had been identified for potential development, subject to securing additional funding.
It has already committed to delivering 266 homes, with further developments planned across the city.
