Top 10 housebuilder partners with sustainable timber supplier to cut carbon emissions

Top 10 UK housebuilder, Keepmoat, has partnered with Alexander’s Timber Design (ATD) as its timber frame supplier in Scotland in a move set to promote sustainable Scottish forestry.

The partnership will see ATD manufacture timber frames for Keepmoat schemes from its facility in Irvine – ATD is owned by Glennon Brothers, a third-generation, family-owned timber processing business.

Set to reduce transport emissions from Keepmoat’s timber frame supply chain in Scotland by up to 44 percent compared to imported timbers, the partnership will deliver timber sourced from sustainably managed forests in Scotland.

Sarah Fenton, Commercial Director at Keepmoat, Scotland said:

“This partnership is a step forward in reducing carbon in our supply chain. By aligning with a supplier that controls the process from forest to frame, we gain quality assurance and a materially lower-carbon product.

“We’re proud to invest in UK-sourced timber, which also supports jobs across Scotland whilst also supporting our ambitious sustainability targets.”

Established in 1913, Glennon Brothers has grown into one of the leading timber processors in the UK and Ireland, with a significant manufacturing footprint and decades of expertise spanning the full timber supply chain.

Jim Patterson, Head of Timber Frame at Alexander’s Timber Design added:

“Our ‘Forest to Front Door’ model is true circular economy in action. We’re delighted to support Keepmoat with homegrown Scottish timber that reduces transport miles, supports local industry and delivers precision-manufactured homes at scale.”

To mark the launch of the partnership, representatives from Keepmoat visited ATD’s facility in Irvine for a business introduction and factory tour, gaining first-hand insight into its timber manufacturing process. The collaboration supports Keepmoat’s commitment to halve emissions by 2032 against its 2022 baseline.

As one of the UK’s leading partnership housebuilders, Keepmoat works with local authorities, housing associations and supply chain partners to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes.
