Offsite housing specialist TALO and residential developer Oakmont have announced a new strategic partnership to deliver ultra-low energy homes faster, to consistently higher quality standards and with reduced risk.
Oakmont has been working alongside TALO on a number of residential schemes in recent months. Under the new partnership, Oakmont will use TALO’s housebuilding solutions for its own residential developments.
TALO’s superstructure system is manufactured from slow-grown, Nordic timber which is kept fully dry – from forest to sawmill, factory and to site. This reduces movement, snagging and heat loss, and means that homes built by TALO exceed Passivhaus energy and air-tightness standards as standard and at no cost premium.
The timber structure is prefabricated offsite in the factory to reduce work on site and is installed complete with high grade plaster boarding, glazing, cladding, and a higher level of insulation.
Michael Tame, Executive Director of Oakmont, said:
“We see TALO as offering something genuinely different but very needed in UK housebuilding and it has the potential to transform the way we build new homes. Their approach is to apply precision-engineering, fresh thinking and attention to detail to every aspect of the construction of low-rise housing, and this is what sets them apart.
Their use of completely dry Nordic timber, protected from moisture from forest to site, means far less movement than with traditional timber systems, and a level of airtightness and thermal performance that housebuilders simply can’t achieve without significant added cost.
For Oakmont, the logic is clear. Building costs aren’t falling, land is expensive, and values are largely stagnant. To unlock sites, you have to build quicker – but faster programmes usually come with increased risk and increased snagging. TALO is the only solution we have seen that allows you to build far more quickly to achieve a faster return on investment without compromising quality.
This partnership will help us to accelerate our residential developments. If we can build more homes in half the time, we reduce the financing costs, thereby unlocking more sites that were previously unviable commercially.
We are really proud to partner with TALO to deliver much needed ultra-low energy housing and look forward to a long-term collaboration.”
Bengt Magnussen, Founder and Executive Director, at TALO:
“Oakmont’s delivery capabilities align perfectly with our mission to transform low-rise housebuilding in the UK.
We have brought a proven superstructure system to the UK, widely used in the Nordic countries, that delivers ultra-low energy homes of exceptional quality and in significantly less time. Collaborative clients and strategic partners like Oakmont understand how to optimise the benefits of our housebuilding solutions and share our obsession with detail.
With our expanded suite of housing solutions and our commitment to redefining housebuilding, we are confident that more housebuilders will be able to develop sites for residential use that are not currently viable because of high finance costs – when land, labour and material costs are already at high levels. If you can deliver housing schemes in half the time, borrowing costs are halved and the business case is much stronger, helping to meet the Government’s drive for more housing.”
TALO and Oakmont are currently collaborating on three residential schemes in the Southeast using TALO’s housing solutions, with more and larger housing developments in the pipeline for 2026.
