Award-winning housebuilder and heritage conversion developer City & Country has appointed David Woodger as Commercial Director to oversee its schemes across the South of England. This follows a series of strategic hires to strengthen the leadership team at City & Country.
Backed by a career spanning more than two decades in surveying, David brings significant expertise to his latest role at City & Country. He has worked for some of the biggest housebuilders, including most recently as Commercial Director for Vistry Group, and prior to that at Barratt Homes. David’s experience spans contracting, developing and consulting throughout the construction process.
David has a hand in every stage of the lifecycle of a development, from land acquisition to planning and technical, all the way through to customer care. His ambition is to bring together the processes and lessons learned from working for larger housebuilders. David supports City & Country’s ‘Build it on Paper’ initiative, which aims to quantify risk and more accurately forecast build costs and progress before construction has begun on site.
David comments: “As an SME developer, City & Country has the flexibility to evolve its practices and improve its processes at every stage of development. That includes the ability to react quickly to resolve problems as they arise, but more importantly, to learn from them and implement lessons going forward to maintain excellence. Our industry is always changing, whether it’s regulation, buyer activity or supply chain fluctuation, which requires us to be ready to respond.”
The Commercial Director role at City & Country offers significant scope to influence development outcomes and steer the direction of the business. David’s day-to-day role involves overseeing cost controls within the construction side of the business, while managing an experienced surveying team.
David adds: “At City & Country, the quality of our products is fundamental to our brand offering and to ensure that the standards remain high the organisation has invested heavily in bringing the strongest team on board. That means working with highly skilled, specialised teams to manage design, construction and the supply chain. Commercial teams require a detailed level of knowledge across all stages of development to guarantee the quality of the schemes going forward.”
David and the surveying team are delivering City & Country’s new homes and conversion schemes across London, the South East and the South West. These include strategic developments including the redevelopment of the former Pitman Press in Bath, Bath Press; and significant schemes in Essex at Manningtree Park and Priory Fields.
