Independent housebuilder Redcliffe Homes has begun construction on a new residential development in Castle Cary.
The development, The Carriages, named after the nearby railway station, consists of 29 homes, including 30 per cent affordable housing, helping to support local housing needs and contribute to the growth of the historic Somerset town.
The milestone marks the start of work on the site, with initial activity expected to focus on preparing the land and infrastructure ahead of the first phase of construction. Redcliffe Homes completed the purchase of the site last December.
Jon Burcombe, Chief Operating Officer at Redcliffe Homes, said:
“At Redcliffe Homes, we’ve spent more than 40 years delivering thoughtfully designed communities across the South West, and we’re pleased to be bringing that experience to Castle Cary. It’s a town with real character and a strong community spirit, which makes it a natural fit for the type of developments we create.
“Work on site is now underway, and we expect to open the show home in Autumn. Given the appeal of the location and the level of demand we typically see, we’re anticipating strong interest from buyers looking to put down roots in the area.”
Castle Cary is one of Somerset’s most attractive market towns, known for its historic streets, independent shops and strong rail connections, including direct services to London Paddington. Surrounded by countryside and within easy reach of larger centres such as Yeovil and Bath, the town continues to be a popular location for families and professionals seeking a balance between rural character and good connectivity.
Further details about the development, including information for prospective buyers, will be announced as construction progresses.
