Sustainable community with 79 new homes coming to Rutland town

Five-star homebuilder Allison Homes Central has been granted planning permission, subject to the signing of the legal agreement, to deliver a sustainable new community in Uppingham, consisting of 79 new homes.

Situated west of Ayston Road, the 4.2 hectare site will feature 55 open market sale homes and 24 affordable homes. The new development will include a mix of apartments, bungalows and two storey houses with up to five bedrooms, creating a diverse new community accommodating all lifestyles.

The homes have been carefully designed to reflect Uppingham’s character and with energy-efficiency at their core, with solar PV panels, electric vehicle charging points, electric heating and secure cycle storage all set to be included.

On site, Allison Homes Central will be delivering a biodiversity net gain of 40 per cent, meaning the development will have a positive impact on the area’s habitats, plants and wildlife, compared to what’s on the site currently.

As part of the housebuilder’s commitment to enhancing the local environment and existing community, public open space spanning over three acres will be located to the north of the site. Designed in consultation with Uppingham Town Council, the space will include sustainable urban drainage, an orchard, a circular walking route and an equipped play area.

Allison Homes Central will also be contributing approximately £950,000 to improve infrastructure in Uppingham.

Georgina McCrae, Planning Director at Allison Homes Central, said:

“We have been working closely with Uppingham Town Council and the Neighbourhood Plan Advisory Group over several years, and are incredibly proud to have now secured planning permission on this new high-quality development.

“The new community has been designed with a strong emphasis on placemaking and sustainability, and is set to greatly exceed the minimum biodiversity net gain requirement of 10 per cent. We’re looking forward to returning to Rutland and delivering these much needed new homes for the Uppingham community.”
