Bellway builds its 600th home at Wynyard Estate in County Durham

The housebuilder has played a leading role in realising the wider vision for the site, which has become one of the North East’s most sought-after addresses.

Plans initially driven by former Newcastle United Chairman Sir John Hall, who bought the Wynyard Estate and Hall in 1986, have led to the creation of a sustainable new community set in a woodland landscape.

His mission was to create high-quality residential areas with employment and leisure opportunities nearby, including a golf course and the hall itself, which is a hotel and spa – all within the setting of its extensive parkland. A primary school opened on the estate in 2015 and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Bellway, which has its national head office in the North East, became involved in the project in the late 1990s. The company’s North East division built 409 homes across various developments between 1998 and 2014.

When Bellway’s Durham division was established, work continued at the flagship Regency Manor development, and this is where the 600-home milestone has been reached.

When Bellway completes work at the 258-home Regency Manor development, it will have built a total of 667 homes on the Wynyard Estate.

Rachel Kitchen, Finance Director for Bellway Durham, said: “Reaching our 600th home here is an important milestone.

The Wynyard Estate is one of the most desirable addresses in the North East and Bellway has played a key role in bringing the vision for this location to life.

“Now hundreds of people are living in and enjoying quality homes here, forming a new community and making the most of the beautiful location, with workplaces and wonderful leisure facilities nearby.

“Our developments here have brought wider benefits too, including supporting local employment and creating an improved environment through planting and landscaping.”

Work is continuing on the third and final phase of Regency Manor, where two showhomes have opened in recent months.

There is currently a choice of four and five-bedroom homes available to reserve at Regency Manor, with prices starting from £374,995.
