County Durham building firm Radford Construction Services Limited, based near  Chester-Le-Street, has beaten builders across the UK to scoop the award for the best  Bathroom Project at the prestigious Federation of Master Builders’ 2021 National Master  Builder Awards. Company Director Andrew Radford also walked away with the Highly  Commended prize in the Tradesperson of the Year category. This follows on from their  bumper win at the FMB Northern Counties Master Builder Awards 2021 where the firm  picked up the best bathroom project award, along with wins in three other categories.

TV presenter and all-round building enthusiast Nick Knowles announced the winners of  outstanding Bathroom Project to the delight of the team from Radford Construction  Services, during the virtual ceremony on September 24th

The awards recognise building excellence, quality craftsmanship, and exceptional customer  service, and are run by the Federation of Master Builders, the largest trade association in the  UK construction sector which is this year celebrating its 80th anniversary.

The winning bathroom was part of a larger project delivered by Radford Construction  Services to construct a new bespoke wedding venue with top class facilities. The potential of  converting the building’s loft area into a luxurious bridal suite complete with vast bathroom was too good to be missed.

Radford Construction Services certainly delivered on the client’s request for a unique space,  with the independent judges praising the one of a kind roll-top bath, excellent tiling, mood  lighting, surround sound music and air conditioning systems, and twin showers and sinks.

The project overcame a range of challenges, with excellent use of innovative materials. The  tight rooftop space meant all materials had to be carried by hand up three flights, including  the bath. The renovation seamlessly blends the old Edwardian farmhouse features with the  look and feel of a modern American style loft conversion.

Andrew Radford, Director at Radford Construction said: “We were up against fantastic  competition, in difficult times. It was hard work, but the team overcame the obstacles. The  customer is over the moon, and we’re happy. Everything in that room is just lovely.”

Tom Rynolds, CEO of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association, and National Judge  for this category said: “This project was chosen as the winner as it overcame an array of  challenges in order to create a stunning end product…which perfectly matches the brief the  builder was given. In summary, an outstanding, high quality entry.”

Andrea Dean, Property Writer at the Metro, and also a National Judge, said: “There are so many standout features: the roll-top bath is absolutely gorgeous and it’s quite different to  any other free-standing tub I’ve seen before. It’s an amazing use of space in what was quite  a difficult area.”
