Electric car chargers to be mandatory in new homes

Electric vehicle charging points are set to be required by law in new homes and buildings in England from next year.

The Government has said the move will see up to 145,000 charging points installed throughout the country each year.

Not just houses, the law will cover new-build supermarkets, workplaces, and buildings undergoing major renovations.

This move is intended to address the UK’s aim to switch to electric cars, with petrol and diesel car sales to be ended by 2030.

Announcing the new laws, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will say: “This is a pivotal moment – we cannot go on as we are.

“We have to adapt our economy to the green industrial revolution.”
