The Metropolitan Police has submitted its final investigation file into the Grenfell Tower fire to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which seeks charges against 54 individuals and 20 companies.
The charges include corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter, health and safety offences, fraud and fraud-related offences and misconduct in public office. Submitted nine years since 72 people were killed in the 2017 fire, the Met Police described the investigation, which ran in parallel with the public inquiry, as one of the “most complex ever undertaken by any UK law enforcement agency.”
The CPS said said that decisions on the charges to take forward would be made before the 10th anniversary of the disaster; 14 June 2027.
It is thought the investigation has involved 220 officers, and police have looked at 15,000 individuals and 700 organisations involved, including examining 165 million electronic files and taking 14,400 statements. The Met’s summary reports total over 12,600 pages, referencing more than 45,000 documents, images and exhibits.
