MP champions construction industry during visit to the National Federation of Builders

The National Federation of Builders (NFB) welcomed Tatton MP and Minister of State in the Cabinet Office, The Rt Hon Esther McVey, to its headquarters for a productive discussion on the future of the UK construction industry.

Based in Knutsford, Cheshire, the National Federation of Builders is the foremost professional association of builders, contractors, and house builders, offering unrivalled standards, services, and advocacy to members across England and Wales.

In a discussion with NFB Chief Executive, Richard Beresford, Chairman, Kevin Hogwood and Board Member, John Maddock, Ms McVey discussed some of the challenges currently facing the industry and possible ways to resolve some of those.

The industry faces challenges including the impact of rising material costs and supply chain disruptions on construction projects, as well as a widening skills gap risking a supply of highly trained workers.

Richard Beresford, Chief Executive of the NFB, said:

“We were privileged to host Ms McVey and engage in such open and informative dialogue about the vital role builders play in our economy. Her understanding of the challenges we face, from material costs to skills shortages, was truly refreshing, and we particularly appreciate her commitment to building a stronger relationship between the NFB and Tatton, a key area for construction activity.”

Tatton MP, Esther McVey commented:

“Meeting with the NFB as representatives of the construction industry was an invaluable opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the issues facing this crucial sector. “I am committed to working closely with the expert NFB team to support the construction industry in Tatton and across the UK. I was particularly interested to talk about the challenges faced by the industry and the wide range of employment and skills development opportunities it can provide.”
