Pumping station for multi-million pound A50 growth corridor

As part of a highway development project on the A50 near Uttoxeter, T-T Pumps designed, supplied and installed a new relocated pumping station to facilitate commercial and residential development around the JCB World Parts Centre.

The problem

The A50 Growth Corridor is a multi-million pound project run by Highways England. The  scheme aims to ease congestion on the A50, one of the busiest and most important roads in the Midlands, fostering economic growth in the area by supporting local businesses and creating job opportunities.

As part of the project, a new pumping station was required to facilitate new commercial and residential development in the area around the JCB World Parts Centre in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. This involved relocating the existing pumping station serving the JCB site and diverting part of the pumping main.

The solution

T-T Pumps supplied and installed a new pumping station to the site, using new and existing main Zenit ZUG V080 11/2 pumps due to a high head.

The new pumping station replaced an existing station and rising main constructed by St Modwen during the late 1990s, pumping directly to the nearby Uttoxeter Sewage Treatment works. It is a submersible type capable of delivering 16.3 litres per second at a head of 18.8 metres.

As previously, the station is designed to account for the friction losses for the initial 600m of the rising main to its highest point. Most flows come from JCB as there is not much housing around the site.

T-T Pumps designed, supplied and installed the new pumping station to meet the supplied detailed specification, working to ensure the construction work on the highway scheme could go ahead to schedule.
