Quooker MD hits 1.5 million steps – heat, reroutes and 60K raised

Stephen Johnson, MD of Quooker UK & Ireland, has now surpassed 1.5 million steps in his 2,000km charity walk across Europe, a journey defined by endurance, emotion, and grit.

Currently walking from Ardilleux to Cognac, Stephen is averaging 64km and over 83,000 steps per day, with a total of more than 2.6 million steps so far. The terrain has been challenging, from dual carriageways with no footpaths to woodland trails with uneven surfaces, and frequent mid-walk rerouting to avoid unexpected obstacles. With temperatures consistently above 30°C, the physical and mental demands are intensifying.

Stephen is undertaking this walk in memory of his late father, Neville Johnson, a respected figure in Manchester, whose passing in 2024 inspired this campaign. Every step is a tribute to Neville’s legacy and a commitment to supporting families facing grief and adversity.

He is raising funds for two charities that reflect this purpose:

  • Grief Encounter, helping children and young people navigate bereavement
  • The Friendship Circle, supporting children and adults with disabilities and their families

“Some days feel endless, the heat, the terrain, the reroutes but every step reminds me why I’m doing this,” says Stephen. “It’s for the families who feel lost in grief, and for the children who need to know they’re not alone.”

With over £60,000 raised, and support growing daily, Quooker’s UK showroom network continues to back the campaign through charity raffles, local walks, and branded POS.

This is more than a challenge, it’s a movement. And the kitchen trade is invited to walk with him in spirit.
