Steel Window Association (SWA) member, Steel Window Fittings (SWF) specialises in providing quality, design-led fittings for steel window frames. A recent innovation to answer questions of aesthetics, security and longevity is a range of multipoint locking handles.

The multipoint locking range is currently available for windows with door frames following soon. There is a selection of five different designs for SWA members to choose from; and they come in six standard finishes as well as bespoke options.

Traditionally, slimline steel windows have been conventionally closed and locked; that is when a handle latches the window or door at that point only. Multipoint locking has always been essential for PVC, timber, aluminium, and large box section windows due to their mechanical limits. Concealed multipoint operating mechanisms have been incorporated as these window materials consist of much larger section profiles and can accommodate such mechanism with ease. Now slimline steel can enjoy the many positives of concealed multipoint locking whilst maintaining the original aesthetics and slim sightlines that they are renowned for.

As well as protection from the weather and loud noises, multipoint locking handles can be matched with additional hardware depending on the window style. For example, matching peg stays, and traditional twin or single arm slide stays. The hardware on offer is not only an added design element but is also functional – meeting building regulation requirements such as, window restriction (Park K). The benefits for manufacturers and refurbishers of steel windows and the buildings’ occupants is that a single slimline steel window can have a number of locking points on it. With this new system, security is greatly improved, durability is enforced and larger windows can be designed and produced. The concealed system is driven by a single key-locking or non-locking handle that is available in five different designs and six standard finishes.

Multipoint locking is available for W30, W40 and W50TB window profiles. An added bonus of the system is home insurance can be slightly lower when multipoint is installed.
