Work starts on 45 affordable homes for Cambridgeshire village

Forty-five new affordable homes are on the way for families in a Cambridgeshire village.

Work has started at Wyatt Court in Wimblington, a development from BFL (Bromford Flagship LiveWest), the UK’s largest provider of new affordable homes.

Of the homes, 32 will be let to people on the local housing register at affordable rent – maximum of 80% of market rent – and 13 will be sold as shared ownership – a part-buy, part-rent route onto the housing ladder.

The development includes 12 three-bedroom homes and three four-bedroom homes, offering plenty of space for growing families.

Tony Tann, Managing Director of Flagship Homes, part of BFL, said:

“There’s real demand for affordable family housing in this part of Cambridgeshire, and that’s why we’re building Wyatt Court.

“I’m pleased about the size of the homes we’re delivering in a village where a lot of families want to live. The project means new homes for people who need them, and more life in a community that already has a lot going for it.”

The principal contractor is East Anglia-based housebuilder Seagate Homes.
Adam Murfet, Managing Director of Seagate Homes, said: “We’re proud to be working with BFL to deliver these much-needed affordable homes at Wyatt Court in Wimblington.
“As an East Anglia-based housebuilder, it’s important to us that we help create high-quality homes that meet the needs of local communities.
“This development will provide a mix of family homes and affordable ownership opportunities, helping more people to put down roots in a village with a strong sense of community.
“We look forward to progressing the build and seeing the positive impact the scheme will have for local residents.”
Initial groundworks at the site have progressed well, and the first homes are expected to be ready by January 2027 and the full development complete by the summer.
The scheme takes its name from Thomas Henry Wyatt, the Victorian architect behind St Peter’s Church, the Grade II-listed landmark that has stood at the heart of village life since 1874.
Wimblington, in the Fenland district, is known for its strong community spirit and winning Cambridgeshire’s Best Kept Village award nine times.
Wyatt Court is part-funded by Homes England through the Affordable Homes Programme. For more information about Flagship Homes’ developments,
