Allison Homes South West has received planning permission for 90 much-needed new homes in Calne, adding to the housebuilder’s growing pipeline of sites across the South West.
At a time when around 3,800 people are on the housing register in Wiltshire, the development aims to address local need, offering a mix of affordable housing, alongside two, three and four-bedroom homes. The site will also feature a play area, green open space and thoughtful landscaping, giving local people and families an opportunity to become part of a new thriving community.
The site off Spitfire Road received outline approval in February 2025. After acquiring the site, Allison Homes submitted a reserved matters application, which was deferred by councillors in August 2026 despite a recommendation for approval from Wiltshire Council officers. Following minor adjustments to the scheme, the Council’s Northern Area Planning Committee approved the proposals on 14 October.
Andy Cattermole, Planning Director for Allison Homes South West, said: “We’re delighted to have secured planning permission for this high-quality scheme. The new homes will help meet local housing need while providing green space, sustainable design and investment in local infrastructure.
“After a ten-month determination process, despite the scheme having outline permission and no objections from officers, we’re pleased to be able to move forward and begin delivering these much-needed homes. We welcome the Government’s planning reforms, including the National Scheme of Delegation, which should help high-quality schemes like this to progress more quickly and relieve pressure on the lack of local and affordable housing.
“We’ll continue to work closely with council officers, local residents and stakeholders as construction begins over the coming months.”
As part of the new development, Allison Homes South West will contribute over £130,000 towards local highways, sports pitches and new pedestrian crossing infrastructure on Spitfire Road, providing tangible benefits for both the new and existing residents of Calne.
Allison Homes is continuing to build momentum across the West of England and beyond, having recently started work on 67 new affordable homes in Crewkerne and on 70 new homes in Congresbury, North Somerset. This latest approval marks another step forward for
Allison Homes’ commitment to delivering attractive, well-connected homes, while driving investment and growth across the region.
