Hounslow Council has officially launched the Golden Mile London, a collaborative 15-year regeneration programme that will bring together the Council, investors, developers, businesses and anchor institutions to deliver up to 14,000 homes, 25,000 jobs and £7.5bn of investment along the Great West Road.
Building on the Golden Mile’s historic role as one of West London’s most important economic corridors, the programme marks the beginning of an ambitious new chapter for the area, positioning it as a leading Creative-Tech Innovation District for London.
The vision was first unveiled at a London launch event held at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, where senior representatives from the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, investors, developers and members of the Golden Mile Business and Developer Forum came together to introduce the Golden Mile London Vision and Investment Framework.
The Vision and Framework set out a coordinated plan for long-term growth, bringing together public and private sector partners behind a shared ambition to transform the area while delivering inclusive, sustainable benefits for local communities.
Stretching four kilometres between Heathrow and Central London, the Golden Mile has long played a defining role in Hounslow’s economy. Known for its Art Deco landmarks and industrial heritage along the Great West Road, the area is now entering a new phase of growth and opportunity.
With exceptional connectivity, including the A4/M4 corridor, Heathrow Airport, the Elizabeth Line and proposed projects such as the West London Orbital, the area is uniquely positioned to attract national and international investment.
Hounslow Council has committed £1.15 million to the Golden Mile London programme and early priority projects, including the Golden Mile Innovation Hub, greener streets and improvements to the A4, to help kickstart delivery.
Momentum is already building along the Golden Mile. Hounslow Council’s Planning Committee recently approved plans for the transformation of the former GSK headquarters site at 980 Great West Road, brought forward by Hadley Property Group.
The scheme will create a major mixed-use neighbourhood with around 2,300 homes and 320,000 sq ft of commercial and community space.
Alongside this, the Council and the University of West London (UWL) are working with Hadley Property Group on plans for a Golden Mile Skills and Innovation Hub. This proposed flagship project aims to support upskilling residents, launch start-ups2and scale-up businesses across the creative, digital and technology sectors, connecting businesses with UWL’s research, talent and skills.
The programme will deliver:
-
Up to 14,000 new homes
-
25,000 new jobs
-
New workspace for creative, digital and technology industries
-
Greener streets and improved public spaces including the emerging West London Regional Park
-
Enhanced transport connections and active travel routes
-
New cultural, education and community facilities
With an estimated £7.5 billion gross development value, Golden Mile London represents one of London’s most significant long-term mixed-use investment opportunities across residential living, workspace, education and skills, leisure and culture.
Following its London launch, the Golden Mile London is being showcased today at MIPIM, the world’s leading property and real estate conference in Cannes, placing Hounslow’s ambitious plans for the Golden Mile on the global stage.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:
“The Golden Mile London is one of the most significant regeneration opportunities in London. This is about shaping the future of Hounslow, West London and London itself. Delivering thousands of new homes and jobs while creating greener, healthier neighbourhoods for our residents.|
“Through strong partnerships, we are setting out a bold, long-term vision for inclusive, sustainable growth.”
Howard Dawber, Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, said:
“It is fantastic that Hounslow and partners are taking the first steps to deliver the Golden Mile London, which will deliver a huge boost to the local economy.
“London’s Growth Plan aims to restore growth, help create 150,000 jobs and make London’s economy £107bn larger by 2035 – and this ambitious scheme in Hounslow is a great example of what can be achieved, as we work together to build a better, fairer and more prosperous London for everyone.”
Rob Tincknell, Chair, Golden Mile Business & Developers Forum and CEO of Areli added:
“Golden Mile London is a story that hasn’t really been told – until now! The vision launched today, underpinned by seven principles to make it happen, gives a clear sense of our ambition. Investors, businesses and Hounslow Council are collectively aligned to make this unique place absolutely extraordinary in the years ahead.”
